Crazy Quotes #5, The Pleiades

Jehovah's Witnesses used to believe that God lived on the star Alcyone in the Pleiades star cluster. Consider this quote from Thy Kingdom Come (1903 edition) page 327.

"Alcyone, then, as far as science has been able to perceive, would seem to be the 'midnight throne' in which the whole system of gravitation has its central seat, and from which the Almighty governs his universe. And here is the wonderful corresponding fact, that at the date of the Great Pyramid's building, at midnight of the autumnal equinox, and hence the true beginning of the year as still preserved in the traditions of many nations, the Pleiades were distributed over the meridian of this Pyramid, with Alcyone precisely on the line."

You are correct. We did used to teach that. But guess what - not anymore.

And you have to realize that those teachings were from the early witnesses who were coming out of nearly 2 thousand years of darkness (the dark ages), when the truth of Christian teachings had been muddled by pagans. These early Witnesses were all coming from these pagan-infested religions. Of course they had some strange beliefs. But I tell you what - every other religion gets worse as time goes on - becomming more permissive of sinful acts, and incorporating more paganism. But Jehovah's people have become more and more in tune with God's word the bible as the years have passed. And don't think for a minute that being the true religion makes us perfect. You forget the Isrealites. They saw divine miracles daily, yet continued to have among them sinners. I think always of the scripture - If not you, then where do we go? If not Jehovah's people, then where do I find true worship? Don't bother answering, because you couldn't possible give me an answer that would be adequate. I have studied many of the earth's religions in detail, even left the truth only to come back. I have studied evolutionism, astrophysics, and am a person of high intelligence. I have read much apostate literature, and they always have the same tired arguments with little merit. I have seen nothing new under the sun to convince me that there is anywhere else to go.

You claim the Witnesses are a cult, yet I know for a fact we worship Jehovah God and acknowledge his son Jesus Christ as our king and redeemer from sin. In all my time at the Christian meetings, I have rarley ever heard mention of any person in the governing body by name. In fact, I couldn't tell you any of their names.

You claim we are a controlling organiztion - yet I know first hand that nothing is ever required of you. If you come to meetings that is your prerogative. If you go out in service that is your prerogative. No one will try to force you. If you commit a grave sin, you will be disfellowshiped. As it should be.

Please, get your facts straight, and ask yourself who on the earth follows the bible more closely. If you are a truth seeker, and know what the bible says, you will come to the same conclusion as I have.
